Private tutor in Bethesda, MD
Education
Sophomore at Columbia University
Experience
I'm a sophomore at Columbia University who has just spent the past academic year studying at East China Normal University in Shanghai, China. The youngest and only non-native Chinese speaker, I completed the highest level Chinese language classes (Advanced II) in my program. I also have professional translation experience providing English to Chinese translations for California's economic delegation in China this past April. With two younger brothers studying Chinese at home and through Montgomery County's FLES program, I have spent time tutoring Chinese to young children. As a college student, I provided extensive help for my peers in Shanghai as they began studying Mandarin, while also helping Chinese students prepare for the TOEFL exam. My experiences studying Mandarin in high school and college have given me a unique understanding of the language's difficulty for non-native speakers. Whether bridging the summer gap in your child's FLES class, or giving your middle or high school student a competitive edge for next year's Chinese class, I can work with your child in practicing and improving his or her's language skills this summer with patience and practicality.
